Launch-Ready Analytics: Why Sentry and PostHog are Mandatory for Day 1

Most SaaS MVPs fail not because the idea was bad, but because the launch was a black box. You spend weeks building a clean UI, post it to Hacker News or Product Hunt, see a spike of 1,000 visitors, and get... zero conversions. Without tracking, you have no idea why they left. Did the Stripe payment crash? Did the main screen throw a Javascript exception? Did they get confused by the layout?

If you don't have monitoring on day one, you are flying blind and wasting traffic.

1. Sentry: Catching Exceptions Before Users Do

Users will almost never report bugs. They will simply close the tab and never come back. Sentry automatically captures runtime errors, unhandled promise rejections, and slow API calls. When a user clicks "Checkout" and it fails, Sentry sends an alert to your Slack channel.

In Daniel's Reveliio case study, Sentry alerted our team of an edge-case Google GA4 token expiry exception on day 2. We patched it in 5 minutes, saving three agency signups who were active on the site at that exact moment.

2. PostHog: Understanding the Onboarding Funnel

Traditional web analytics (like Google Analytics) tell you *how many* users visited. Product analytics (like PostHog) tell you *what they did*.

With PostHog, you can build a conversion funnel:

  • Step 1: Landed on homepage
  • Step 2: Clicked "Schedule Scoping Call" or "Sign Up"
  • Step 3: Entered details in form
  • Step 4: Successful submission

If you notice 80% drop-off at Step 3, you know your input fields are too long or confusing. You can also view session recordings to watch exactly how users navigate your UI, highlighting friction points in real-time.

Conclusion

We bake Sentry and PostHog into every project we ship at Logitron. It takes 1 hour to set up, but saves weeks of guessing. When you launch, make sure your dashboards are active. Your runway depends on it.
